At the Global Humanitarian Disaster Consulting Institute (GHDCI), formerly the Centre de Recherche JURISCONSULTE (CRJ), we are committed to ensuring that our website and digital platforms are fully accessible to all users, including persons with disabilities, in accordance with international accessibility and inclusion standards.
Our commitment to accessibility forms part of GHDCI’s broader mission to strengthen humanitarian governance, promote disaster resilience, and ensure that information, research, and early-warning resources remain inclusive and available to everyone, especially in times of crisis, emergency, or recovery.

Our Commitment

At the Global Humanitarian Disaster Consulting Institute (GHDCI), formerly the Centre de Recherche JURISCONSULTE (CRJ)—we are deeply committed to ensuring that our digital platforms are inclusive, accessible, and resilient for all individuals, including persons with disabilities and those affected by crises or disasters.
We believe that access to information is a humanitarian right and that equitable access to knowledge, early-warning systems, and digital services can save lives and strengthen resilience before, during, and after emergencies.

Our accessibility efforts align with GHDCI’s broader mission of promoting inclusive humanitarian governance, disaster-risk reduction, and rights-based response systems that uphold human dignity, accountability, and non-discrimination.

Standards and Guidelines

Our website is designed and continuously improved in accordance with internationally recognized accessibility and disaster-information standards, including:

  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA

  • Principles of perceivability, operability, understandability, and robustness (POUR)

  • Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA) specifications

  • ISO 22320:2018 – Emergency Management and Disaster Response Guidelines

  • Sphere Standards and the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) on Quality and Accountability

  • We aim to make our platforms interoperable with assistive technologies, screen readers, and low-bandwidth environments often used in humanitarian and post-disaster contexts.

Accessibility and Disaster-Resilience Features

To strengthen both accessibility and operational resilience, we have implemented:

  • Text alternatives for all meaningful images and infographics

  • Clear, consistent navigation and page structure, even under low-connectivity conditions

  • High-contrast color options, legible fonts, and scalable text adaptable to mobile and emergency devices

  • Keyboard-friendly and voice-command interfaces

  • Descriptive links, headings, and metadata for rapid information retrieval

  • Captions or transcripts for multimedia and training materials

  • Secure, lightweight formats that remain functional during bandwidth disruptions or crisis deployment

Ongoing Improvement and Accountability

In line with GHDCI’s principles of continuous preparedness and accountability, we regularly:

  • Conduct manual and automated accessibility and usability audits

  • Engage users, including persons with disabilities and humanitarian responders, for feedback

  • Train staff and content managers on inclusive design and crisis-communication accessibility

  • Update digital tools to comply with both accessibility and disaster-communication standards

  • Integrate lessons learned from field operations into our web design protocols
